Food Technology & Hospitality Teacher (Full-time)

Waitākere College is seeking an enthusiastic, innovative teacher of Food Technology & Hospitality to join our department, commencing Term 1, 2027.

As we actively align our practices with the New Zealand Curriculum Refresh, we are looking for a practitioner who is ready to embrace this change. The successful applicant will have a strong knowledge of the Phase 4 (Years 9–10) curriculum requirements and possess the pedagogical capability to help design engaging, relevant learning experiences that foster student agency and achievement.

The successful candidate will:

●     Demonstrate the ability to design and implement inquiry-based unit and lesson plans that align with refreshed learning area requirements.

●     Have strengths in the NCEA Food Technology curriculum and/or relevant experience within the Hospitality industry.

●     Have experience teaching Service I.Q. standards, including US 4098 assessor training (highly advantageous).

●     Be an active participant in our Professional Development Programme, including Relationship-Based Learning (RBL).

●     Have a commitment to our school vision of "Achievement for All," including involvement in the wide range of extracurricular activities on offer at the College.

Must already be able to work in New Zealand on a permanent basis without the requirement for sponsorship or a job offer.

Food Technology Technician (Term Time Only)

Waitākere College is seeking a proactive, organised, and reliable Food Technology Technician to join our thriving Food Technology & Hospitality department. With our department growing—now offering Food Technology as a UE subject at Year 13—we are looking for someone to provide high-level, quality support to our teaching staff and students, ensuring the smooth operation of our busy practical learning spaces. If you are passionate about food technology and want to support a dynamic team in a school dedicated to 'Achievement for All,' we would love to hear from you.

The start date for the position will be late January 2027, but a start date to cover the handover process is negotiable and could be during Term 4 (anytime from 12 October).   This will be discussed at the interview process.

About the role:

The position is 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 7:30 am – 3:30 pm, term time only. You will play a crucial role in the daily efficiency of our department, supporting both the HOD and teaching staff to deliver effective practical learning opportunities for our students.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Ingredient Management: Sourcing, shopping for, and managing stock levels, including specialised ingredients for practical lessons.
  • Classroom & Equipment Support: Preparing trolleys for lessons, checking kitchen units daily for maintenance, and ensuring equipment is in good working order.
  • Hygiene & Maintenance: Managing high standards of hygiene in pantries, fridges, and freezers; cleaning and laundry duties (aprons/tea towels); and supporting the HOD with yearly stock takes and equipment maintenance.
  • Administrative Support: Assisting teachers with photocopying and other operational tasks as required.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Excellent time management, organisational, and stress management skills.
  • Strong Computer literacy (able to manage online shopping, emails, and digital communications).
  • A commitment to maintaining strict health and hygiene standards; a hygiene-related qualification is preferred.
  • A positive, professional attitude and the ability to work collaboratively within our school community.
  • Flexibility and the ability to adapt to changing daily requirements.
  • Cooking experience in a high-pressure commercial kitchen environment.
  • Ideally hold a hospitality qualification

As per Ministry of Education regulations, you will be required to undertake a Police Check.
