10 Oratia SOS are this week's winners!
Nominated by Mrs Dann
Every student in this class composed a high-quality formal letter to a Minister of Parliament calling for New Zealand to take action to help Tuvalu and Kiribati with the impacts of sea level rise caused by climate change. These students worked diligently and in a sustained way over several lessons to plan, draft and then finalise formal copies of their letters. They wrote persuasively - from the heart - in their own words, supported by evidence from research.
All of their writing grades have improved since the start of the year, with some students moving up two grades, e.g., from Working Towards to Merit. This is a testament to their greatly improved attitude and manawanui in Social Studies. They are a pleasure to teach.
