This week, our school has proudly celebrated Sāmoan Language Week with a variety of activities highlighting the richness of the Sāmoan language and culture. This year's theme, E afua mai mauga manuia o le nu'u – From the high mountains are the blessings for the village – reminds us that the strength, wisdom, and prosperity of a community come from strong foundations and shared values.
Throughout the week, students and staff have participated in Year/Level assemblies, cultural performances, six different Sāmoan-themed staff professional development workshops, and a highly competitive dominoes tournament, with Whaea Pearl and Shirley taking the win! These activities have provided opportunities for learning, connection, and celebration across our school community.
To conclude the week, our Sāmoan Language classes showcased their talents with vibrant cultural performances on stage under the Bubble during Friday lunchtime. The Year 13 Sāmoan language class even invited friends from various cultural backgrounds to learn and perform a dance together. Our staff group, who learned Siva Sāmoa on Wednesday, also took the stage to share their new moves. It was wonderful to see so many people come together to support our students and celebrate the beauty of the Sāmoan language and culture.
A huge thank you to Ms Auvaa for all the effort in planning and leading these activities for all to enjoy.
Manuia le Vaiaso o le Gagana Sāmoa!
