Waitākere College proudly sent 15 students to compete at the College Sport Auckland Road Race Championships, where they competed against some of Auckland's strongest secondary school runners in challenging, cold and windy conditions.

Our athletes produced a number of outstanding performances, with several students achieving personal best times and others competing in their first sporting competition for the college.

A special congratulations goes to Lachlan Snook, who finished 26th in the Senior Boys 6km race with an impressive time of 22 minutes and 7 seconds.

Our Senior Boys team also achieved an outstanding result, placing 3rd in the six-person team competition to earn bronze medals. The team consisted of Lachlan Snook, Mairaj Jaffari, Taiga Iwamoto, Avishaan Achari, David Cruz, and Shanacenne Tohu. The team was presented with their bronze medals at the Year 12 assembly in front of their peers. This is a tremendous achievement for the group, particularly as many of the boys only began long-distance running within the past two years.

A big thank you to Mr Hough and Mrs Vaaga for transporting and supporting our students on the day, as well as helping them prepare for their races. Thank you also to all the families who came along to support our athletes.
