On Saturday, our incredible girls' basketball team hit the court to fundraise for their upcoming trip to the National School Basketball Championships in October, where they will proudly represent Waitākere College!

To help cover their costs, they set up a special challenge: Staff members donated in $10 blocks that would only unlock if the girls hit their total shooting target of 2000 made shots in just 2 hours!

Our team rose to the challenge and officially reached their goal with 25 minutes to spare!

The challenge kicked off with a strong first 30-minute block, landing 715 out of 1,500 free throws, followed by an impressive 454 out of 500 3-pointers in the second block. Even after another training session and a tough game against the Junior Premier Boys, the team pushed through the fatigue in their final 30-minute block to bank another 810 shots, bringing their total to 1,525 free throws. With a friendly competitive push, they knocked out the remaining 46 3-pointers in under five minutes!

A special shoutout to superstar Zoe Ycay, who hit an amazing 332 out of 400 free throws—an outstanding 83% shooting percentage!

This was a fantastic opportunity for the girls to raise funds for their upcoming Nationals campaign while refining their shooting technique. A huge thank you to everyone who kindly sponsored the team. With $1,300 pledged so far, we are able to allocate $100 to each player to help support their families with tournament costs.
