Waitākere College held its annual Sports Awards on September 23rd in the Hall, celebrating the achievements, commitment and contribution of our students, coaches, managers and wider sporting community.

The evening began with a light supper, giving students, whānau, coaches, and staff an opportunity to mix and mingle before the formal awards presentation.

We were privileged to have Azure Anderson, Commonwealth Games basketball medalist, join us as our special guest presenter.

The evening was a wonderful opportunity to acknowledge the hard work, dedication and success of our athletes and teams throughout the year, while also recognising the many coaches, managers, staff and whānau who support them - thank you all so much once again!

Blaze Harema-Watts - WMF World Muay Thai Championships Silver Medal. Beating the #1 ranked fighter in NZ in the 75kg category.

Team of the Year
Senior A Girls Basketball – Qualified for Nationals in Palmerston North.

Algie Service to Sport
Nanci Mapa-Tupou and Vanesah Mapa-Tupou – Outstanding contribution to school sport through playing, umpiring and coaching.

Junior Sportsperson Runner Up
Luke Moi – Netball Waitākere 18/2 Representative.

Junior Sportsperson of the Year
Lavinia Mulitalo Onesemo – Outstanding all-round athlete and Wabi Basketball Representative.

Dux Runner Up
Shanacenne Tohu – U/20 and U/18 Netball Waitākere Representative.

Dux Ludorum winner is Belle Ah Van – Achieving the prestigious title of Dux Ludorum is the highest sporting honour at Waitākere College, awarded to the most outstanding all-round sportsperson. Belle’s selection for the Netball New Zealand National Development camp and her place in the UNISS tournament team for two consecutive years are remarkable accomplishments that reflect her extraordinary talent, dedication, and leadership in sport.
