An interactive session with the Warehouse Group managers.
On 15th October, 10 hiring managers from the Warehouse Group in the West Auckland region came to our kura to run an interactive session on how to make your CV stand out and how to shine in a job interview to secure the position.
The session started with information on securing an interview; students learnt how to tailor their CVs, use their achievements to showcase their skills, write a short but effective cover letter and how to use Linkedin to build contacts and network.
Next, the students were given tips on how to ace a group interview and an individual interview: research the organisation, prepare an effective introduction, have 5 clear examples demonstrating your key skills and practise them out loud.
They then went through the most commonly asked questions at an interview and how to answer them. They were also given some tips on punctuality, professionalism and enthusiasm. The managers shared the top questions that they have asked in interviews and what answers they are expecting.
The students were also given a list of Dos and Don’ts - a list of things they should definitely do, like arriving 10-15 minutes early, dressing one level above the role, as well as things that they should not do, like don’t rush, don’t check your phone etc.
Waitākere College would like to thank the Warehouse Group for taking the time out of their schedules to help our students prepare for their futures, with the key takeaway of being prepared, being positive, being curious and being yourself.
